In case if you don't know this already, all new MAC book pro(s) have motion detection built-in that switch off the hard disk in case of fall etc. The same motion detection feature can be extended to create likes of above applications.
The second video above uses the virtuedesktops program which has recently come to it's end. You can however get a decent build from the link below.
